The Scientific Revolution and the Reduction of Health, Man, and Community

On Thursday, October 26, the Hale Institute is hosting Dr. John Patrick for a lecture event at the Sword & Shovel Bookstore: "The Scientific Revolution and the Reduction of Health, Man, and Community." A pre-lecture wine reception will begin at 6:40 p.m. At 7:00, Hale Institute Director Jeff Shafer will offer brief comments on the theme, followed by Dr. Patrick's lecture and engagement with audience questions.

Dr. John Patrick studied medicine at Kings College, London, and St. George’s Hospital, London, and has held appointments in Britain, the West Indies, and Canada. His main academic interest in medicine has been the treatment of Protein Energy Malnutrition (PEM), and accident trauma. His research has been carried out in the UK, Jamaica, Canada, and Africa. In the 1970s he worked at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, and while there was involved in the breakthrough of PEM treatment. He relocated to Canada in 1980, and for twenty years was an Associate Professor in Clinical Nutrition in the Department of Biochemistry and Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa. 

Dr. Patrick has addressed audiences the world over on issues of medical ethics, culture, public policy, and the integration of faith and science. He is currently President and Professor of the History of Science, Medicine, and Faith at Augustine College.
