In our national mythos, nothing is less American than religious establishment. So why are some Christians talking about re-establishment? In the context of the so-called post-liberal moment allegedly upon us, Dr. Moots’ lecture will consider not the jurisprudential challenges to establishment, but the historical precedents. What might a coherent public theology look like, and what can we learn from history about its justifications, form, and operation?

Glenn Moots, PhD., is Professor of Political Science and Philosophy at Northwood University in Michigan. He is author of Politics Reformed: The Anglo-American Legacy of Covenant Theology (Missouri) and co-editor of Justifying Revolution: Law, Virtue, and Violence in the American War of Independence (Oklahoma).
